Faith Statement

I believe in one God who is inseparably and without confusion expressed in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. This one God eternally exists as the one living and true God. God is neither male nor female, yet created human beings male and female in his image.

I believe in God the creator of all things. I believe in an awesome powerful God who spoke the universe into existence. This God has the power to raise the dead, forgive sins, answer prayers and offers to us his free gift of grace. God is perfect and holy in every way, God is love and God is merciful. God is faithful, good, just and true. God’s mercy endures forever.

I believe in Jesus Christ the only Son of God. Jesus is true God and true human being, eternally existing, begotten not made, one being with the Creator. Jesus was sent by God to save humanity. Jesus life and ministry models for us obedience and faithfulness. Jesus bears witness and fulfills all that was written about the Messiah in the law, psalms and prophets.

I believe the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Church at Pentecost. The Holy Spirit is the indwelling presence of God preparing us for worship, sanctification, the building up the Body of Christ, gifting us for ministry and for witness to the entire world. The Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and is my abiding Comforter, Helper, Teacher, and Guide.

I believe in the one, holy and universal Church. In the church’s worship I experience God. All who repent of their sins and confess Jesus as Lord and Savior are formed by the Holy Spirit into the living Body of Christ, of which Jesus is the head and of which we are all members. God calls the church to be set apart, holy and righteous, compassionate, and merciful. God calls the Church to be a faithful witness. God sends out the church to the entire world in the ministry of Jesus Christ to teach all that Jesus commands. The Church cares for the oppressed, feeds the hungry, and works as peacemakers in our fallen world. We do this to glorify God and not ourselves. Therefore the church is called to proclaim and be good news to the world. My faith is nurtured and encouraged by the being a member of the body.

I believe that the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are acts of God’s grace and signs of God’s promises. They signify what God has done, is doing, and will do. The Sacraments also seal the promises of God. The Sacraments are gifts of God for the people of God in which God acts to assure us of the efficacy of God’s love and promises. In baptism and the Lord’s Supper, God is at work calling, renewing, forgiving, nourishing and helping us to be reconcilers through the use of the common elements of water, wine (juice) and bread.

I believe in the God who is revealed in Holy Scriptures. I believe the authors were people of faith who in various times and contexts were inspired by the Holy Spirit to record an authoritative record of the saving acts of God throughout history. I believe that we have a reliable transmission of the text in our Bibles. I believe it is the written word of God. Therefore we can have confidence to remain faithful to it and do what it says. We can trust it as a guide, as the only infallible rule of faith and practice. The Holy Spirit continues to guide the people of God as the scriptures are read and proclaimed.

I believe in a God who is and who was and who is to come. I look forward to Christ coming in glory and the completion of the creative and redemptive activity of God. I believe in the bodily resurrection of those who have died in the Lord. I believe in God’s final triumph over death and evil. On that day, the Church will then enjoy perfect fellowship with God, the whole community of faith, and all creation.
